Our Story of 65 Years Serving YOU
AlliedFCU is celebrating 60 years in business this year! We’re proud of the six decades we’ve spent serving members and want to thank you for the trust you and your families have placed in us throughout our history as a credit union. To commemorate this milestone, here’s a bit of AlliedFC history for you.
Arlington Federal Credit Union was chartered on November 5th, 1964, by a group of City of Arlington employees.
The first manager was a volunteer, Mrs. Vernon S. Watson - head of the Payroll and Personnel departments for the City of Arlington.
The credit union was operated from her payroll desk from 1965 until 1973. Members’ funds were kept in a box.
Mr. Vernon “Larry” R. LaRochelle became the first paid manager of AFCU, and the credit union office was relocated to one of the City’s annex buildings. Larry was previously a credit union manager in Corpus Christi.
North Texas Council of Governments employees were added to our field of membership. One year later, employees of the Trinity River Authority of Texas were added.
AFCU leased space in a shopping center, then purchased its own building a year later in downtown Arlington.
Started offering: Money Market CD’s, All-Savers Accounts, and IRA’s. One year later, checking accounts were introduced.
Began offering ATM cards, a MasterCard and home improvement loans. Added employees of the City of Mansfield, Electrocom Automation Inc., and the City of Midlothian to our field of membership.
VISA and VISA Gold credit cards were added. AFCU purchased space connected to the East side of the Sanford property for expanded parking and drive-thru service.
Brand new South Arlington branch opened for business on December 9, 1996.
NCUA approved us to serving people living, working, worshipping or attending school in Arlington . Approval to move into Mansfield, Pantego and Dalworthington Gardens was granted in 2001.
The Green Oaks branch building opened in May 2003. The Mansfield branch opened in October 2004.
